DaSSCo stands for the Danish System of Scientific Collections and is part of the European project DiSSCo.

The organisation says it is digitising Denmark’s estimated 19 million natural specimens and aims to share data and knowledge globally.

Its mission is to make data from Denmark’s natural history collections more accessible so it can help address scientific and societal challenges.

Digitisation

DaSSCo says it is at the beginning of its digitisation journey and invites visitors to follow its progress.

One featured example is “The Dodo goes Digital”, describing the digitisation of the only complete surviving modern skull of a dodo in the world.

Access Data

According to the site, DaSSCo data can be viewed through platforms such as GBIF.org, Arter.dk, MorphoSource, and collaborators’ own collection portals.

The site also notes that DaSSCo is exploring ways to improve access to its data further.
